Bury is ten miles up the M66 from us, which makes it the nearest borough outside the Manchester and Salford core. That matters at 3am, and it matters rather less at 5pm when the M60 is doing what the M60 does.
BL9 town centre and Fishpool, BL8 Tottington, Greenmount and Woolfold, M26 Radcliffe, M45 Whitefield, BL0 out to Ramsbottom.
The borough that is four towns
| Where | Postcode | From Salford |
|---|---|---|
| Whitefield | M45 | 15-25 min |
| Radcliffe | M26 | 20-30 min |
| Bury town centre | BL9 | 20-35 min |
| Tottington, Greenmount | BL8 | 25-40 min |
| Ramsbottom | BL0 | 30-45 min |
Whitefield is closer to us than parts of Manchester. Ramsbottom is twice the drive. One borough.
What breaks here
Radcliffe and Whitefield semis
Interwar and post-war. Front door done at some point, back door untouched since. The back is the one facing a garden nobody can see. £85-140.
Bury and Tottington terraces
Stone and brick mill housing. Original lever mortices that service rather than replace. £40-70.
Newer infill everywhere
Composite doors, multipoint gearboxes. Stiff handle now, sheared gearbox in six months. £45-85 now, £60-120 later.
Ramsbottom and the edge
Bigger plots, outbuildings, gates. Closed shackle padlocks, not the ones that came with the hasp. £45-90.
Whitefield is a borderline case, honestly
M45 sits between us and Bury town, closer to Salford than several places we call city centre. If you are in Whitefield you get our fastest outer-borough response, 15 to 25 minutes, and it is worth knowing that rather than assuming Bury means a long wait.
Same goes for Prestwich next door, which is Bury borough but ten minutes from our van.
What it costs

|---|---|
| Lockout, non-destructive | £65-110 |

Same price in Ramsbottom as in Whitefield. Distance changes the wait, not the bill.

Questions people actually ask
How quickly can you reach Bury?
It depends which part, and the spread is bigger than people expect for one borough. Whitefield in M45 is 15 to 25 minutes and is genuinely closer to us than parts of Manchester. Radcliffe is 20 to 30. Bury town centre is 20 to 35. Tottington and Greenmount are 25 to 40, and Ramsbottom out in BL0 is 30 to 45. Overnight everything is quicker because the M66 is empty. Bury is the nearest of the outer boroughs, which is worth knowing at 3am.
Is Whitefield actually in Bury?
Yes, M45 is Bury borough, and it surprises people because it sits between us and Bury town and is closer to Salford than several places we would call city centre. Practically, that means Whitefield gets our fastest outer-borough response at 15 to 25 minutes. Prestwich next door is the same story: Bury borough, ten minutes from our van. If you are in either, do not assume Bury means a long wait.
My back door in Radcliffe has never been touched. Should it be?
Go and look at it, because that costs nothing and it is where most people are exposed. Radcliffe and Whitefield are largely interwar and post-war semis, and the pattern is always the same: the front door got upgraded at some point and the back never did. The back is the one facing a garden nobody overlooks, with a fence around it. Open it, find the faceplate on the edge, and look for a Kitemark and BS3621. If it is not there and your policy says all external doors, that is £85 to £140 you did not know you needed.
Do you charge more for Ramsbottom than Bury town?
No. Same price everywhere in the borough and no call-out fee, so Ramsbottom costs what Whitefield costs even though it is twice the drive. Distance affects how long you wait, not what you pay, and it does not change at night, at weekends or on bank holidays either. If we are going to be at the longer end we tell you on the phone rather than leaving you guessing.
