Most locksmiths are open 24 hours in the sense that somebody eventually answers and the price is different. Ours is not. A 3am Sunday call in Rochdale costs exactly what a 2pm Tuesday call in the city centre costs, and we would rather say that plainly than bury it.

What counts as an emergency

Locked out

House, flat, office, unit. Non-destructive where possible. Locked out →

Broken in

Made secure tonight, repaired properly after, paperwork for the claim. Burglary repair →

Locked in

Rarer, worse, and we treat it as top priority. Ring, do not fill in a form.

When we get there

Overnight is often quicker despite being further, because the M60 is empty. These are typical figures, not promises. If we are going to be longer, you get told on the phone, not by us failing to arrive. Full list on areas we cover.

What "no call-out fee" actually means

It is worth being precise, because the phrase gets abused.

The trick to watch for elsewhere: a low call-out fee and an open-ended labour rate. You are quoted £39 and pay £180 because it "took longer than expected". If a locksmith will not give you a total on the phone, that is the reason.

Questions people actually ask

Do you really charge the same at 3am as at 3pm?

Yes. There is no night rate, no weekend rate, no bank holiday rate and no call-out fee, and a 3am Sunday call in Rochdale is priced exactly like a 2pm Tuesday call in the city centre. What does change is the response time, and only because of where the van is coming from rather than what the clock says. Overnight is often faster despite being further, because the M60 is empty at 4am and it is not at 5pm.

How quickly can an emergency locksmith reach me in Manchester?

From our base in Salford: 15 to 25 minutes to the city centre and Salford, 20 to 35 minutes to Trafford, Stockport and Bury, and 25 to 45 minutes to Bolton, Oldham, Wigan, Rochdale and Tameside. Overnight those outer times tighten because the roads are empty. These are typical figures rather than guarantees, and if we are going to be longer than that we tell you when you ring rather than leaving you to work it out on a doorstep.

What does no call-out fee actually mean?

It means there is no charge for us coming out and no charge for quoting. You get a total price on the phone before we set off, and that is the number on the invoice. If you decide at the door that you do not want to go ahead, you pay nothing at all. The trick to watch for elsewhere is a low call-out fee paired with an open-ended hourly rate: you are quoted £39 and pay £180 because it took longer than expected. If a locksmith will not give you a total on the phone, that is usually why.

Is being locked out an emergency, or should I wait until morning?

That is your call and it depends on the weather, who is with you, and whether you have somewhere to go. It costs the same either way, so there is no financial reason to stand outside until nine. If you have children with you, if it is cold, if you are alone at night, or if the property is now insecure, ring. If you are safe and warm at a friend's and would rather sort it tomorrow, that is completely reasonable and the price will not have gone up.

Someone is locked inside. Is that different?

Yes, and it is the one situation we treat as top priority. Do not fill in a form, ring 0161 394 2625 straight away and say someone is locked in. It usually happens when a multipoint gearbox shears while the door is locked, or when a double cylinder deadbolt is locked and the key is not where anyone thought it was. If there is any suggestion of a medical emergency or a fire risk, ring 999 first and us second. We are quick, but we are not the fire service.
