Every locksmith website you'll open today claims to be local. We're at 25 Fairhope Ave, Salford M6 8AF. That's not a mailbox and it's not a virtual office. It's where the van sits overnight.
M5, M6, M7 and M50: Ordsall, Pendleton, Weaste, Seedley, Langworthy, Broughton, Kersal, Salford Quays and MediaCity. Plus Eccles, Swinton and Worsley.
Two Salfords, two lock problems
The Quays and MediaCity are apartment blocks: fob entry, communal doors, fire-rated flat doors, euro cylinders that see hundreds of cycles a week. The problems are the city centre's problems, and the useful question is always which door you're actually locked out of.
Ordsall, Pendleton, Weaste and Seedley are terraces and interwar semis: mortice locks, rim nightlatches, back doors that have dropped, and a lot of housing where the lock has never been touched since it was fitted. Different work, different parts on the van.
We carry both, because we live between them.
What being local actually gets you
Not much, honestly, except the one thing that matters at 3am: we're already here. No trunk road, no motorway, no "we're just leaving Bolton". Ordsall to Pendleton is ten minutes at any hour.
It also means we know which streets are one-way, which back entries are gated, and where the Quays parking actually is. Small things. They add up to twenty minutes.
Student housing and HMOs
Salford has a lot of shared housing, and shared housing has one recurring problem: keys that never come back at the end of a tenancy. You cannot ask for them all. You can only make the old ones stop working.
A master key system is the proper fix: one key for you, one door each for them, rekey one cylinder instead of the house. See also eviction locksmith if it has got that far.

Questions people actually ask
Are you actually based in Salford or is that just a website claim?
Actually based here. 25 Fairhope Ave, Salford M6 8AF. It is not a virtual office or a mail forwarding address, it is where the van sits overnight. That is the reason Salford gets our fastest response, 15 to 25 minutes and often a lot less, and it is why we will tell you honestly that Widnes at 20 miles is the edge of our patch. A business that is genuinely local to one place cannot be genuinely local to fifty.
I'm locked out of a flat at MediaCity or the Quays. Can you help?
Yes. The question we will ask first is which door. If your fob still works and you are stood in the lobby, that is a flat door lockout and it is ours, £65 to £110 and normally with no damage. If you have lost the fob and cannot get into the building at all, that is the concierge or the management company rather than a locksmith, and we will say so on the phone rather than charging you to come and tell you in person.
My back door in Ordsall has dropped and won't lock. What is that?
Usually hinges rather than the lock, and it is very common in the older Salford terraces and interwar semis. The door drops a few millimetres, the latch or the bolt stops lining up with the keep, and you end up lifting or shoving to get it to catch. People assume the lock has failed and buy a new one, which does not fix it because the lock was never the problem. Realignment is £35 to £65 and takes half an hour. If the mortice itself is genuinely seized, a strip and service is £40 to £70.
We rent out a shared house in Salford and never get all the keys back. What is the fix?
Stop trying to get keys back and start making old keys useless. A cylinder swap at the end of each tenancy is £35 to £60 per door and kills every copy instantly. If you run several rooms or several houses, a master key system is the better answer: each tenant gets a key that opens only their own room, you get one key that opens everything, and when someone leaves you rekey one cylinder rather than the building. It is £45 to £75 per door and it pays for itself in about two tenancies.
